Online event: A discussion about health and social care with Jeane Freeman

Enlighten, Scotland’s independent think tank was delighted to host an online discussion about health and social care with former health secretary Jeane Freeman.

Scotland’s life expectancy has been falling; waiting lists are growing; social care is in crisis and the move to a prevention agenda has yet to be delivered. In a period of shrinking revenue can anything be done to rescue our beleaguered NHS? How do we develop long-term multidisciplinary reform with cross-party buy-in? Jeane Freeman has had a long and successful leadership career in the fields of health and social justice, latterly as Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport in the Scottish Government, before standing down in 2021. During her time in government, as well as helping lead the country’s response to Covid, she commissioned the Feeley report into social care and was involved in the roll out of hospital-at-home.
