Online event: A conversation about regional economic growth with Sir Anton Muscatelli

Event Date:

Enlighten, Scotland’s independent think tank, was delighted to host a conversation about regional economic growth with Sir Anton Muscatelli.

Sir Anton is the President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and former Principal of the University of Glasgow. He is the author of a recent, wide-ranging report, commissioned by the Scottish Labour Party, exploring how Scotland can unlock the potential of its regional economies and ensure that economic growth improves the quality of life of people across the nation.

In his report, Sir Anton stated that “there is a need for much greater consistency, clarity of purpose, and sustained focus on the objective to drive economic and productivity growth. This is not just a policy imperative; it’s a national priority which must be central to government policy, precisely because it is the key to raising living standards, resourcing our public services and generating the means to tackle inequalities.

There is broad agreement that boosting growth must be a key goal of the devolved government after next May’s Holyrood election. In conversation with Chris Deerin, Director of Enlighten, Sir Anton will discussed how he believes this can be achieved.
