1pm Tuesday 28 April
Due to demographic challenges, global pressures, and the rapid development of AI and automation, the nature of work in Scotland is changing. In order to address these challenges while also growing the economy, it is essential to retain and develop the skills needed to meet labour shortages and fill vital job vacancies. Instead, youth unemployment is growing and a range of experts, such as the Scottish Fiscal Commission, have warned that Scotland is running out of money and that difficult choices lie ahead.
Could apprenticeships help? The CIPD has called on the next Scottish Government to introduce an apprenticeship guarantee for 16–24-year-olds, while the FSB has called for an ‘Apprenticeship Accelerator Grant’ that could help small businesses meet the upfront and ongoing costs of employing an apprentice.
This panel discussion will consider the role apprenticeships can play in improving the Scottish economy and what can be done to help make doing business easier.
The panel will include:
Vikki Manson, Deputy Head of Policy Scotland, Federation of Small Businesses
Marc Strathie, Senior Policy Advisor for Devolved Nations, IoD
Lorna Trainer, Director, L&G Learning
Marek Zemanik, Senior Public Policy Adviser, UK Nations, CIPD
And will be chaired by Chris Deerin, Director of Enlighten.
This event will be held via Zoom on Tuesday 28 April starting at 1.00 pm. Login details will be provided on RSVP to [email protected]
