Enlighten is delighted to invite you to join an online discussion with Professor Lindsay Paterson about his new book, Lessons from Scottish Schools, which examines recent history, international comparisons, and cognitive science. A brief overview of the book can be read in this article on our website.
Scotland has just come through an election campaign in which the problems facing its schools were barely mentioned. There was rhetoric about standards and the curriculum, about behaviour and attendance, about the importance of teachers. Much of that was welcome, though superficial and uncosted. But what was absent was any sustained engagement with the depth of what has gone wrong.
Perhaps more worrying is that there doesn’t seem to be acceptance that school education in Scotland is in decline, despite plenty of evidence to that effect.
Professor Paterson, a member of Enlighten’s Commission on School Reform, will be in conversation with Chris Deerin, Director of Enlighten.
This event will be held via Zoom on Wednesday 10 June starting at 4.00 pm. Login details will be provided on RSVP to [email protected]
