Pre-PISA Briefing Note

The latest PISA results from the OECD are due to be published on Tuesday 8 September. They should show an improvement given the impact covid had on the 2022 results, but what else should we be looking out for? Commission on School Reform member Professor Lindsay Paterson has put together this briefing on the questions we should be asking. The briefing can be viewed here:

Professor Paterson will also be joining Daisy Chrisodoulou in online discussion event with our director Chris Deerin on Thursday 10 September. For more information and to sign up for that event click here:

CFE tends to be treated and assessed in its entirety. However, there are several parts which seem to merit detailed individual discussion as to their impact. For example:
Moving from 4/5 levels in primary assessments to two levels.
    Extending the BGE to S3.
Removing examinations from National 4 and assessing its impact on attendance as well as attainment.
None of these changes appear to have been implemented based on prior research or testing to assess impact.
